The gender gap in theater, television and film has been widely publicized. Plays by women account for just 28 percent of those produced off Broadway, and only 39 percent are directed by women. Recent studies show less than 5 percent of top-grossing films were directed by women.
Drama majors Julia Greer '15 and Emma Miller '15 wanted to make a change during their time at Kenyon, so they revived StageFemmes, a theater group focused on female-written work or work with strong female roles.
One of the many projects they worked on was a collaboration with film and TV producer Megan Wolpert Dobkin '95 to bring her play, Pink Boxes (which she developed at the Kenyon Institute Playwrights Conference in 2014), to campus for a reading.
