Classic jazz and blues will put a charge into February when the Kenyon College Jazz Ensemble performs on Sunday, February 9, at 7 p.m. in Rosse Hall.
The concert program spans the classical jazz age to modern times, with pieces by legendary and renowned jazz musicians, composers, and performers, including Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Carter.
The show begins with North Clearwater Stomp by Dominic Spera, followed by O.W. by Mary Lou Williams, and Miss Missouri by musician and bandleader Benny Carter. Fables of Faubus by Charles Mingus and arranged by Sy Johnson, Strasbourg/St. Denis by Roy Hargrove and arranged by W. Scott Gwinnell, and A Tisket A Tasket by Ella Fitzgerald and Al Feldman make up the middle of the concert. The program concludes with How Insensitive by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, and Norman Gimbel and arranged by John Clayton and Every Day (I Have the Blues) by Memphis Slim and arranged by Ernie Wilkins.
Professor of Music Ted Buehrer directs the ensemble, which is composed of students and community members. The concert is free and the community is encouraged to attend.
