What are the program dates?
Sunday, June 10 - Friday, June 29, 2018
What are the eligibility requirements?
The program is open to motivated and socially mature rising junior and senior high school students. Because of the large number of applications, admission is highly selective. It is based primarily on the student's application essay, GPA and a teacher's recommendation.
What is the program format?
Two sessions are held over the three-week period, one for rising juniors and one for rising seniors. Juniors will take courses in U.S. history and creative writing, and seniors will take neuroscience and African American history. Each class will meet for three hours each weekday. In addition, all students will take a studio art class, twice a week.
How does housing work?
Participants live in residential halls of Kenyon College. The young men will stay in one dorm and young women in another. Most rooms are doubles. Careful supervision is provided by the director, staff, and residential assistants.
What do students do for fun?
Recreation time is scheduled for students each night. Activities include scavenger hunts, kickball, nature walks, and discussions with college students about college life. Weekends offer opportunities to go to the movies, dance, play pool or ping pong, and more. We will also produce a newsletter, a yearbook, and the “No-talent” Talent Show.
How much does the program cost?
The total cost, including tuition, accommodations, all meals, is $3,500. KAP students have earned a scholarship.
