Asian studies major Colleen Moore '18 will conduct research on oral history in India as the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowships.
The Asian and Middle East Studies Program at Kenyon allows students to examine the history, culture, and politics of Asia through the lens of different academic disciplines, ranging from art history and literature to religious studies and economics.
Students, who may pursue Asian and Middle East studies as a joint major or concentration, are encouraged to examine Asian cultures from within as opposed to looking at the region in terms of Western culture. In this way, students come to understand how the people of Asia have historically defined and expressed themselves.
Learning extends outside the classroom with lectures, cultural events, field trips, and films to stimulate students’ awareness of East and Southeast Asia, India and the Islamic world. Study abroad is highly recommended but not required.
