From the history of jazz to the psychology of race and ethnicity, the African Diaspora Studies concentration at Kenyon draws connections across cultures, genres, and time periods.
The interdisciplinary program explores cultural types and formations in the African Diaspora as well as the relationship between African and African-American studies. Students who choose this concentration discover an important synergy between African Diaspora Studies and the knowledge gained in their own majors.
All courses in the concentration are discussion-based, stimulating an intellectual give-and-take among students and faculty. Each student engages in exploratory work independently, around the seminar table, and in the classroom to develop the kind of broad knowledge base characteristic to the program.
